Former Chief Executive of the Competition Commission

Martin is an experienced senior civil servant and public sector chief executive. He has spent much of his career at Board level and at the interface between government and industry. He currently writes, teaches, and advises those interested in building strong government institutions, including competition and regulatory authorities.

Martin is an Honorary Fellow of the University of Manchester, and serves on:

  1. the Committee of Management of the Regulatory Policy Institute, and
  2. the International Sounding Board of Dubai's education authority and regulator: the Knowledge and Human Development Authority.

Martin recently served as Acting Governor and interim Chief Executive of the Turks and Caicos Islands Government, and has been Chief Executive of:

  1. the Competition Commission,
  2. the Postal Services Commission, and
  3. the Better Regulation Executive.

He was previously Principal Private Secretary in (what is now) the Department for Business, during a career in which he also successfully supported the development of the UK vehicle manufacturing and offshore oil/gas sectors, and put in place a major expansion of industry-education links.
