Fergus Reid has been a Commons clerk since 1991. He has served on Health, Foreign affairs, Standards & privileges, Environmental audit, Culture media & sport and Justice select committees. This has included work on topics as diverse as dental remuneration, the Pergau Dam Aid for Trade project, Members' interests and conduct, green taxes, new Wembley National Stadium, privacy and media intrusion, sentencing and prison policy and constitutional reform. He has also worked in each of the core procedural offices. He was leader of the Commons team supporting the Council of Europe's Parliamentary Assembly sittings for four years and was Director of Resources in Parliament's bicameral ICT organisation between 2010 and 2013. He is currently in the Public Bill Office as “Clerk of Programming and Grand Committees” assisting with the passage of legislation through the Commons. He is also acting as liaison officer between the House and BBC in respect of a landmark TV documentary being made this year, 2014, about the work of the Commons. His CV includes experience, in the distant past, as a maintenance man and a residential care officer.
