Margaret Hodge has been the Member of Parliament for Barking since 1994.

In Parliament she has held several senior ministerial positions, including being Minister for Children, Minister for Lifelong learning, further and higher education, Minister for Employment and equal opportunities, Minister for Industry and the regions, and Minister for Culture and tourism. She also held the post of Shadow Minister for Culture and tourism.

She has been a member of several select committees as well, including, liaison, employment, de-regulation and education. She has been the Chair of the Public Accounts Committee since after the general election in 2010.

Her political interests include education, local and regional government, housing, inner cities, democratic reform, and London government.
