Jens grew up in Germany and is an engineer by first degree. He moved to the UK in 2004 and obtained his MSc and PhD degrees from the University of Bath, School of Management. Subsequently, he was a researcher at Imperial College Business School, Imperial College London, UK, before re-joining the University of Bath in 2011. He is an Associate Professor in Operations and Supply Management and the Director of the Centre for Research in Strategic Purchasing and Supply (CRiSPS). Jens acts as the Director of UG Management Programmes at the University of Bath, School of Management, is a member of the Information, Decision and Operations (IDO) Group, an Associate at the Centre of Business Organisations and Society (CBOS) and a Visiting Lecturer at Cass Business School, London. Prior to his academic career, Jens worked in Austria, Germany, South Africa and the USA.

Jens has acted as a visiting researcher and lecturer at leading institutions such as The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston, W.P. Carey Business School at Arizona State University and at numerous UK universities including Cass Business School, City University London and Manchester Business School. He has carried out research, consultancy, executive education and competence development activities with a wide range of public and private sector organisations such as Arup, Maersk, Augusta Westland, Carillion, GKN, NHS PASA, MoD and Veolia.

Jens has published over 60 research contributions in leading UK and US conference proceedings, management journals and books. He sits on the editorial board of the leading industrial marketing journal ‘Industrial Marketing Management', acts as a regular reviewer for world-class management research journals and is an examiner for under-, postgraduate and doctoral-level degrees. Jens has received multiple national and international awards for his research and teaching activities. Jens and his wife reside in Bath and in his spare time he enjoys playing basketball.
